The Museum of Everything

I went to this exhibition recently and thought I'd share it. I love the concept and the collection itself ranges from really weird to a certain type of wonderful!

The Museum of Everything is the world’s only travelling museum for the undiscovered, unintentional and untrained artists of the 19th, 20th and 21st Centuries, with over 300,000 visitors since its creation in 2009.

The Museum of Everything works with leading international artists, curators and thinkers.
In October 2012, The Museum of Everything presents Exhibition #1.1 in Paris at The Chalet Society, the radical new art project helmed by Marc-Olivier Wahler, former Director and Chief Curator of Le Palais de Tokyo.

Showing and Telling - Recent work

This is a piece that I have been working on recently. I was reluctant to post it as I am not at all happy with it (yet).
I have been playing with these organic forms in my work for ages now and I'm beginning to find them stiff and unexpressive, is it just me?

I began this piece with the aim of combining my life drawing style and my illustration style, which, are strangely miles apart.

I would appreciate any feedback you have.

Eleanor Davis

Its nice that says:
Eleanor Davis has more illustrative skill than most people would know what to do with. The American creative spends her days, nights, and probably all the time in between producing a staggering volume of comics, editorial illustration and children’s work, not to mention a healthy dose of personal work (what the hell else are you supposed to do with all that talent?) in all sorts of media.

I say... Loving her work.

This sounds like a fun exhibition for anyone who's ever had to deal with a client from hell and their soul crushing requests.

The work will be exhibited by the kind folks at The Little Green Café, Bar and Gallery. The exhibition kicks off with a few drinks on Friday, November 2nd at 5pm, where A3 prints of all entries will be on sale for only €10, with all proceeds going to Temple Street, and runs until Wednesday 7th.

DR JULIUS NEUBRONNER’S MINIATURE PIGEON CAMERA

I saw this post this morning and just loved the absurdity of the idea, as well as the actual images produced. *LINK*

"In 1908 Dr Julius Neubronner patented a miniature pigeon camera activated by a timing mechanism. The invention brought him international notability after he presented it at international expositions in Dresden, Frankfurt and Paris in 1909–1911. Spectators in Dresden could watch the arrival of the camera-equipped carrier pigeons, and the photos were immediately developed and turned into postcards which could be purchased."

Cycling with Ellen from Paddy Cahill on Vimeo.

"Ellen Rowley is an Architectural Historian who lives with her family in Ballybough, Dublin.
We went for a cycle with Ellen and looked at the architectural heritage around parts of Dublin that often goes ignored, the architecture of the 20th Century and her special interest the social housing schemes by the former prolific city architect Herbert Simms."

Fantastic Oppurtunity !!!!!!

The Mill Theatre | Call for Illustrators

Deadline: 30th September at 5.30pm | The Mill Theatre, Dundrum, Dublin.
This season we will celebrate the wonderful art of illustration. A remarkably visual writer, grew out of a tradition where illustration formed a significant part of both serial and book. His works inspired many artists to recreate scenes and characters. Illustration has enriched the world of art and literature. Quentin Blake’s illustrations for Roald Dahl’s books are still magical to children today. Indeed, many illustrations from childhood stories remain safely tucked in our minds ready to appear surreptitiously when memories are jogged.
If you are an illustrator and would like to submit work, please check out our Gallery Page on www.milltheatre.ie for full details or email aoife@milltheatre.ie

hi guys , I havent posted here in a long time ,,but I know that there are some serious good illustrators within tinderbox....spread the word on this opp and please will someone put it on facebook.

Pick Me Up - Shout Out!

Hey just found this yesterday, its a call for entries for Pick Me Up 2013. http://www.somersethouse.org.uk/visual-arts/pick-me-up-2013/pick-me-up-2013-call-for-entries

Pick Me Up, the UK's first contemporary graphic art fair, returns for its fourth successive year in April 2013 (exact dates TBC). Somerset House invites applications from artists, collectives and galleries wishing to participate" i have been to Pick Me Up the last two years and it is a really good show in a great location in London which is heavily advertised. This is just a little tester to see who would be interesting in getting involved, workwise and helping out as there will be a lot of work but i think it would be well worth it. So if you're interested please comment below. Oh if there are any London based "Tinderboxers" please make yourself know as well as it wouldn't hurt for us to know each other anyway. It really is great event, and would be great to be involved. Applications should be received by 5pm on Friday 28 September so now is the time to get moving on it. This is little taster of last year's event: http://www.somersethouse.org.uk/visual-arts/pick-me-up-2012 Thanks Lee & Michael

Nobrow Press. No Man's Land by Blexbolex

Flying the flag for high-quality book design, at a time when it has been described as a dying medium, Nobrow provide an independent platform for graphic art, Illustration and art comics in the UK and abroad.

Nobrow site
Book review on itsnicethat.com

For the past few years I have been aware of the work of Nobrow, but mostly by seeing images online; that is, until my local art book shop here in Paris started stocking their books. Their style of book making is so distinctive, the paper quality, the form and content, the Nobrow books are special objects helping to remind me of the joy of books.

No man's land, by Blexbolex caught my eye in particular for its rich screen-print style.

Some members of our collective showed their work at the very recent fair, for independant publishers.
It was held in the dublin food co-op and was a celebration of D.I.Y. culture in zine , artist books,  music and crafts with a truelly independant attitude.
Elida ,Jane,Esther and Richael had a presence , it was a super turn out and a very cool atmostphere.
With bands playing, delish veggie food, with lots of appreciation and encouragement for our individual and collective works.
It was lovely to meet up with eoghan carroll, sam maiques carroll, and denise nestor....thanks guys for showing your support big time and sharing the love.
Its fantastic to know that gods and monsters is alive and kicking , watch this space for upcoming news.
We are all now really looking forward to the upcoming dublin zine fair in august.

Please post any other photos you may have of the day :)

We have two tables booked so plenty of room if anybody would like to participate and try and sell some of their art or just come to say hello. Elida and Emma are going to bring Tinderbox zines to sell and I'll have prints of my photos and I'll display a copy of my book 'Dublin graffiti walkers'. There will be lots of live music acts, should be fun!

Good bye Moebius

Hey,

This drawing is my little tribute to the late Jean Giraud, Moebius, who died March 10th, 2012.
He changed the landscape of illustration, comics, sci-fi and cinema (contributing to movies like Alien). If you are not familiar with him, a good place to start is this article on Comics Alliance.

Of his most recent work, "Inside Moebius" is a fun reminder of how he bent the rules of comics and sci-fi into a Moebius strip.

Everywhere

Hi,
I kept seeing the same poster all over Paris and wondered what it was all about.
Just for fun, I took a phone-photo everytime I saw it and made a little animated gif for my blog.

I looked at it again the other day, only to see that, the Everywhere folks had replied!

I thought it might be a fun thing to spread to Ireland (everywhere the other Tinderboxers are).

Check out their site.

did something a little different yesterday.. went with Mark and couple of his friends, to a life drawing class with a twist!

Haven't done life drawing since I left college so was a little rusty! The classes are modeled by burlesque performers...You are supposed to not take the drawing part too seriously and so they ask you to place the model in imagined scenes - most were pretty good at doing this but I found it hard to NOT try to draw it realistically.. and only added the French flag and the top of the Eiffel tower in the last two seconds (imagined scene was supposed to be somewhere romantic)

Independents Day 2012!

Hi everybody! Sorry I haven't been very active here lately, been pretty busy... A date has been set for Independent's Day on Sunday the 22nd of April. How about doing a Tinderbox stall? It's 5 euro per table. Can book a full table, or even two if enough people are interested. We could sell zines, art prints, photographs, crafts, textiles, whatever you have, and it would be a nice chance to get together again!

Martha Vershaffel

Martha Vershaffel is a fantastic artist working out of Belgium within the comic book/ zine/art world but with a totally fine art sensibility....her work is definately worth checking out.
She is very prolific making her own zines and books and collaborates with many other artist publications.

Here is an interesting insight to her process, look too at the other links on this latvian comic /zine blog, there are some rare ones indeed.

Also go to marthas blog and her flickr for a peek at what she does.
I think that marthas work may inspire peeps for the upcoming independants day april 22nd and the second dublin zine fair , later in the summer.
It is personal, she works from dreams and nightmares often and celebrates the handmade gloriously in her process.
